The Meadville-Western Crawford County Chamber of Commerce will hold its Chili Chowder & Soup Cookoff this year but with a few twists. Due to the pandemic, the "hottest" event of the spring has been revamped. This year, the public is invited to purchase a "passport" which allows them to travel (crawl) throughout the month of April to each of seventeen participating restaurants to enjoy one cup of chili, chowder or soup from each of their respective menus.
As we push through the pandemic, we are working to continue our fundraising efforts. The Chili Chowder & Soup Cookoff has been a longtime community favorite that raises funds for our Leadership Meadville program. Asking ticket holders to visit each restaurant to dine in or take out to get their chili, chowder or soup is also a way for us to support these establishments that have been extremely hard-hit this past year. And we hope people will also order more than their complimentary cup.
The seventeen eateries in western Crawford County are all chamber of commerce members and include:
Cannon's Chophouse
Crooked Paddle
Downtown Mall Bistro
Firehouse Tap & Grille
Hitchy's Tavern
Hunter's Inn
JT's SteamTable
Julian's Bar & Grill
Mandelbrok's Café & Bakery
Pampered Palate Café & Bistro
Ranz Bar & Grill
Riverside Brewing Co.
Silver Shores
Smoky Martins BBQ
Twin Pies
Venango Valley Inn
Willy G's
There will be no competition for best Chili, Chowder & Soup this year.
This event is open the entire month of April, so passport holders have the opportunity to visit as many, or as few, of the eateries as they choose to. Maybe you?ll even discover a new favorite restaurant in the process!
Get your passport punched at each stop you make and bring your completed card back to the Chamber office by May 7 to be eligible for prizes.
A usual highlight of Cookoffs of the past is the basket raffle. That tradition will continue but also with a twist. This year's raffle will take place live on the Chamber?s Facebook page on May 11, at 7:00 pm. Over 50 baskets valued at least $50 each are expected to be offered. Raffle tickets are only available for purchase through the Chamber?s website for $10 each. A link to the site is also on their Facebook page. Buy a ticket and your name will be entered into the barrel for each basket. Virtual basket raffle tickets can be purchased now through May 10.
Tickets are available for $20 at the Meadville Western Crawford County Chamber of Commerce (908 Diamond Park, Meadville), Crawford County Convention & Visitors Bureau (16709 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville), Aella Salon & Day Spa (11049 Eastview Avenue, Meadville), Inspire Salon & Spa (19084 Cochranton Road, Meadville) and also at Willy G's Pub AND Hunter's Inn. Tickets will be available now through the end of April. Anyone who bought a ticket for last year's event that was cancelled can trade their 2020 ticket in at the Chamber office for this year's passport.
